- Windows 3.1 Icon Library, Version 2.0
-
- System Requirments.
-
- Firstly a note on the amount of hard disk space used by this
- programme, when fully installed it comes in about 1.7MD, But
- because of the way PKUNZIP works there is a need, for just
- a moment, for about 2MD of disk space.
-
- Computer.
-
- Mine's a "386" with MS-DOS 6.0 and Windows 3.1, But I see no
- reason why a 286 or even lower will be acceptable, as to the
- version of Windows it might work in version 3.0 but I'm not
- sure. Anyway if your still using version 3.0 it's upgrade
- time, believe me!

- Legal.
-
- As far as I know, all the tools used, plus the icons are public
- domain, therefore I haven't breached any copyrights in doing this.
- All you are paying for is it's compilation, sorting testing and
- copying. The usual disclaimer holds true, it was scaned for all
- viruses and should not damage your system in any way. But as the
- large software houses are quick to say, You use this disk at your
- own risk. Sorry, But that's the way it's got to be!
-
- Object.
-
- After being fed up with the bland icons in windows I went looking
- for some replacements, what I found was they were around, but
- always seemed bundled with stuff I had no use for. I use and can
- recommend Icon-do-it as the ultimate icon manager, so giving me
- yet another viewer or manager just means less room for the icons,
- which is what I'm after. I found I was paying shareware library
- prices of upto £3 per disk to find just a couple of hundred icons.
- I'm afraid I felt ripped-off, so this is my answer!
-
-
- Installation.
-
- Firstly DO NOT install from the windows programme manager.
- I wrote the install file assuming that the 3.5 drive, where this
- disk should be, is the A:\ drive. If that assumption is right
- then all you have to do is:
-
- At the DOS prompt log onto the A:\ drive <enter> then type
- install <enter> sit back and wait for it to happen. I hate
- install programmes that leave their rubbish behind, so part of
- the install file has been written to tidy up behind itself.
- When it has, start your copy of Windows 3.1 in the usual way.
- If you now change an icon using the Programme Manager as per
- your windows manual, when given the chance via the
- Dialogue box to browse, double click on the root directory and
- look for a new directory called Icons. In this new directory you
- will find the five .zip files listed above, now unzipped and with
- a .dll extention plus this .txt file. If you double click one of
- the .dll files the prog man will allow you to select your choice.
-
- If your 3.5 disk drive is not the A:\ then I'm afraid you will
- have to install the files yourselve. May I suggest:
-
- At the C:\ prompt type:
- MD ICONS<enter>
- CD ICONS<enter>
-
- Now log onto the drive where this disk is, example A:\
- or B:\<enter> and type:
-
- COPY *.* C:\ICONS<ENTER>
- C:\<enter>
- PKUNZIP ICONS-1.ZIP<ENTER>
-
- Repeat the last line for all the other .zip files. You will
- now have to clear up after yourselve, by deleting all the zip
- files, and the pkunzip.exe file if you so wish.
-
- History
-
- Version 1.0 was never released to the public, just selected
- beta testers (me and my mates.) It was found to have a small
- bug, and many repeated icons.
-
- Version 2.0 (this disk) was made to fix the bug, and to weed
- out any repeated icons. In doing so it grew from one thousand
- to nearly two thousand icons, and would no longer fit on a HD
- disk. So they where all zipped using a shareware version of
- PKZIP. Which allowed them to fit on a DD disk, even better.
-
- I hope you find them useful.
